Rats have been a part of our lives for around 13 years. Over the years we have had multiple pet rats who held (and still hold) special places in our hearts. Within the last few years, we made the decision to breed. However, we did not go about it in the best way. And we started with feeder rats. Yes, I know. The results that ended with that… was poor tempered rats with bad health qualities… and resulted in myself losing my “heart rat” who developed a tumor at a young age and had to be euthanized by a veterinarIan.
After taking a break from breeding… We decided to dive straight into research and knowledge of what makes a better breeder. And with that, we decided to work with actual breeders and actually get mentored by an established Rattery with plenty of experience (KnR Rattery). We do not buy any animals who are not from a reputable breeder.
We still have lots to learn, but with guidance, and going about things the best way we can… we have made sure to stay on the path of breeding quality well tempered rats with good health.
The struggle we went through, really structured us. And it’s a learning experience that has helped us grow, as well as pass this knowledge onto adopters so we can prevent them from going through the same issues.
I tell you this story, not to discourage against our Rattery… but because our adopters are very important to us and we strive to have an open and honest relationship with them.
Our rats come from KnR Rattery in Grants Pass, Oregon… Evolution Rattery in Charleston, South Carolina.. and J & J Willamette Valley Rodentry in Salem, Oregon.. Which I definitely suggest checking them out if you don’t find specifically what you’re looking for with us or if we don’t have any babies available.
